SAFR Sports sponsors the return of Philadelphia High School All-Star football game

SAFR Sports is pleased to sponsor the 2023 Philadelphia City High School All-Star Football Game, which is returning this May for the first time since 2019, cut short because of the pandemic. This year’s game will be played at Northeast High School on Saturday, May 20th, kicking off at 1pm.

“We are proud to help bring this great game back to our city — it’s important not only for the players, but also for their parents, coaches, and all the football fans of Philadelphia,”  said Carlos Bradley, a Philly native who is SAFR’s Board Chairman and former NFL linebacker.

Since 1975, the game has been a showcase for the city’s best high school players. The competitive spirit between the Public League and Private/Catholic League All-Star teams has created outstanding and memorable games over the years. Beyond the game, the organization recognizes academic achievement and has awarded scholarship grants totaling more than $400,000 to over 600 Philadelphia student athletes.

In addition to the game in May, players will take part in a ‘Media Day’ at Lincoln High School on April 1 from 8am-11am, as well as an All-Star Banquet at Cannstatters on Tuesday, May 16.

An important part of SAFR Sports’ sponsorship will be to fit every player with its SAFR Helmet Cover. SAFR Helmet Covers can be attached to any new or existing helmets and are scientifically proven to reduce concussion risk by as much as 77%.

“In addition to recognizing outstanding student athletes, playing football safely is our number one priority, and protecting the head is vital to that effort,” said Doug Macauley, Philadelphia All-Star Game President.  “Anything that can be done to make the game safer is in the best interest of our players – it’s why our decision to partner with SAFR Sports made sense.”

Recent data from a three-year independent study at a major university in Pennsylvania showed the effectiveness of wearing SAFR Helmet Covers, and the results have been published in scientific journals, including the Journal of Concussion. This testing was validated in December at Virginia Tech’s Helmet Lab, where researchers concluded that adding aSAFR Helmet Cover to 5-Star helmets showed a significant reduction in concussion risk.

“At SAFR, we are continually pursuing new ways to improve sports safety through science, and we credit the City All-Star Game for taking this important step to protect their players,” added John Zeglinski, SAFR’s President & CEO.
